Build Your Own Projector Screen with Carl's Step-By-Step Instructions. These instructions demonstrate building a fixed-frame projector screen which will be permanently mounted to the wall. Our method is similar to a giant artist's canvas: a wooden frame with the screen material stretched over it, and with a black contrast-boosting border placed around the edges for a professional look. Welcome to Reddit, It works out pretty good, but due to the wall the size tops out around 80-90 inches. I would like to move the projector to the wall that has the most surface area that would add roughly 35+ inches to the screen size. Problem is that the ideal spot for this is also where my door to the patio/deck is.

Whether used in classroom presentations and business meetings or for entertainment purposes in a home theater, projector screens come in a variety of mounted, portable and pull-down styles. Most projector screens consist of a white matte fabric that allows for flexibility and optimal visual performance. However, projector screens are also susceptible to wrinkles, which can distort images. Removing the wrinkles can return the projector screen to proper working condition and salvage an otherwise pleasant viewing experience.
1.Place the wrinkled projector screen in direct sunlight. The sunlight's heat will be gentle enough to soften the screen without causing any potential damage.
2.Rub the backside of the heat-softened screen with your fingertips to help work out the wrinkles. Never rub the front of the screen because the friction could scratch or damage the delicate surface.
3.Remove the screen from direct sunlight and return to viewing. The wrinkles should now be gone.
Tips
- Applying tension to a projector screen may also help remove wrinkles. Attaching some additional weight to the bottom of a pull-down or portable screen can increase the tension enough to smooth imperfections, or mount the screen to a tension frame for prolonged stretching.
- Aside from wrinkles, projector screens may also display dimpled imperfections. Dirt particles, bugs or flying insects can become entrapped in the screen's fabric, causing the dimpling. Lower the screen and inspect both sides of the fabric, paying special attention to the higher portions of the screen. Removing the obstruction will cause the dimple to flatten out and allow the screen to recapture its original shape.
- Manufacturers often fold projector screen fabric to reduce shipping costs. Upon receipt, unfold the fabric as soon as possible to reduce wrinkling. Leave the fabric unfolded until you're ready to construct your projector screen.
- When storing projector screen fabric, fold the fabric loosely without crisp creases, and never place other objects on top of the folded fabric.
Warning
- Gentle ironing or steaming may also remove wrinkles from a projector screen, but be careful. Always set the iron to the lowest heat possible and never apply the iron directly to the front of the screen. Instead, iron only the backside of the fabric, and you may want to place a bath towel between the screen's backside and the iron just to be safe. Too much heat can melt the matte fabric's acrylic coating and permanently damage the screen.
